Every year UPSC conducts IAS Exam in three stages one is the Prelims, and another is Mains, and lastly, Interview the Candidate needs to qualify prelims to appear in the Mains Exam and so on. Step 1:- UPSC IAS Prelims 2020 Exam Pattern

IAS prelims will have two papers, and every Exam paper will consist of 200 objective-type multiple-choice questions. And applicants will be given 2 hours for each paper.

Spet 2:- UPSC IAS Mains 2020 Exam Pattern

UPSC aims that the students appearing for the mains exam are capable of taking logical desicion, presence of mind, desicion making, and define their answer incoherent manner.
UPSC Mains 2020 Exam pattern consists of 9 papers, which will be conducted over 5 to 7 days. To appear in the mains exam, candidates must have to score minimum cut off marks in the prelims exam. Out of 9 papers, paper I to paper VII are qualifying nature where candidates have to score at least 25%. While in Paper A and Paper B, applicants have to score maximum to get into the merit list.

The literature of any one of the following languages: Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Assamese, Odia, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Maithili, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, and English.

Step 3:- Interview

Finally, if you qualified in both the prelims and mains exams before releasing the final result, you will be called for the Interview, and this will be treated as the part of the mains exam for merit ranking purposes. UPSC IAS Interview is one of the toughest exams in India. In this, the examiner would judge the applicants’ mental and social traits by asking general questions.

What Kind Of Question Asked into the Interview by the examiner?

The board judge the clarity, power of desicion making, logical discussion, balancing power of judgment, intellectual and moral integrity, Social and ethical knowledge, Leadership, etc. Finally, if the candidates will get qualified into the Interview, The final merit prepared, and he has offered one of the desired posts according to their merit ranking.

    • UPSC Prelims Syllabus 2020
        • UPSC prelims consist of two exams
        • The first one is General Studies.
        • While other is Aptitude Test.
        • Each exam will have maximum marks 200, and 2 hours will be provided to solve each question paper where candidates have to score minimum cutoff to appear in the mains exam.
        • There is Negative marking for each question. For every wrong answer, 1/3 rd, no will be reduced.

    • It consists of  9 papers where Essay, General studies, and optional paper; these are only qualifying nature.
    • In these optional papers (Essay, General studies, and optional paper), candidates have to score at least 25%.
    • In case candidates not qualified in optional papers, the marks of these papers will not be included in the final merit list, which may cause a lower ranking.
    • UPSC mains offer 48 optional subjects of literature candidates, need to choose only one out of 48 subjects.
